Web Design 2 : Final Project - Strategic Brief

Project Definition -
This is a project to re-design a commerical website which was given by lecturer randomly - website of Yong Sheng Confectionery (http://www.yongsheng.com.my/). The main purpose of redesigning is to imrpove the current layout, aesthetic and practicality of the website but not changing the company identity and logo. Research will be done based on the behaviour and need of the target audience when browsing the website. The scope of the redesign is to increas the traffic and usage of users into Yong Sheng Confectionery website. We are giving 8 weeks to finish at least 8 pages of design and coding(HTML page).

Client Site's Analysis -
Company Background
Yong Sheng Confectionery is a confectionery manufacturers in the southern region of Malaysia that focuses in the production of quality wife cakes, moon cakes, cookies, pastries and hampers. It was established in 1952 in Muar, Johor.

Current Site's Analysis Goals
- fusion of eastern and western design to bring out an elegant to bring out the baba nyonya feeling rather than just safe but not interesting design
- scrollbar navigation is confusing as it blends in real well with the design
- building a community among customers to ensure their trust and to gain confidence
- always keep promotion updated
- give an identity to Nando's Malaysia
- more friendly user
- simpler with interesting content
- list more about the product, and service that they provide

Short & Long Term Site Goals
short term goal :
- updates on more promotion with print-out discount vouchers.
- current events that happening in the company
- set their website theme according to different festivals and happenings to show that they are concern towards different races and cultures of their audience.
long term goal :
- make sure the return of the user and customers and their support to the company.
- customers to continue to support and communicate with the company. Building confidence and trust from the customers.

Target Audience
- target audience are those who love wife cakes, mooncakes, traditional cookies and pastries
- age : 20 - 40, because they know how to use internet, spend most time with computer and no time for family or they are overseas.
- who wish to purchase online and send it to friends / family that is in different country / out station

Competitor's Analysis -
Primary Competitor :
- as a manufacturer of premium cookies, mooncakes and frozen dough.
- they also own cafe chain in Malaysia
- fonts too small, hard to read.
- lousy pictures, not attractive, look like those illegal chinese toy factories
- but mooncake images are better.

Secondary Competitor :
HYT Food Industries - Casahana (http://www.hytfood.com/)
- they manufactures and supplies mooncakes, assortment of cookies and pastries
- all the products also come with very attractive packaging, with a concept behind every year
- very nice design (website), but too small.
- not informative about the products, only display the product name.

Tertiary Competitor :
- besides restaurants, they also sell mooncakes and homemade traditional biscuits
- their mooncakes and traditional biscuits are certified HALAL by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia
- website look like secret recipe's website, no identity
- images are too large for website, and hard to read.
- takes a long time to load the images
- images are in 1 whole piece
